The Second District PTA held its annual Founders' Day Dinner on March 1st to celebrate the legacy and work of PTA founders Alice McLellan Birney, Phoebe Apperson Hearst and Selena Sloan Butler.  Speakers included Assemblyman Phil Ting and SFUSD Superintendent Dr. Vincent Matthews. During his remarks, Dr. Matthews acknowledged Alamo for its four consecutive years of improvement in Language Arts.  Congratulations and thanks to our administrators, teachers, para-professionals, caregivers and volunteers for your role in making this happen!!

This week, during parent teacher conferences, Mr. Peery, Alamo's  Computer teacher has Chromebooks set up outside the office to make it easier for you to take the survey (this is the link for our school-specific survey: http://bit.ly/2SzfNZS). Every year all our responses to the Annual Culture and Climate Survey help Mrs. Fong and the District develop plans and implement changes that continue to keep Alamo a school with high academic achievement and a warm and welcoming community. The District is reporting that Alamo has a 20% response rate from families so far, and we're currently ranked 19th. WE CAN DO BETTER!!! Let's get to #1!

There are no right or wrong answers to any of these questions and will not be used in staff or teacher evaluations. We just want to know everyone’s honest opinion. If you would like a paper copy to complete at home, please see Ms. Shellie in the office. She has paper versions in Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese and English!

On Wednesday, March 13th the School community will be coming together for our annual community meeting. In addition to the regular agenda items, which we will keep brief, a state of the school will be presented which will include an update on the school financials as well as a summary of the balance scorecard.

Alamo extends a special welcome to grandparents, favorite relatives and grown-up special friends to come and visit from 1:30 to 2:30pm, Friday, March 15th, 2019.  The afternoon events begin with a performance by the Alamo Friendship Chorus at 1:30, followed by classroom visits at 2:00.  Everyone is then invited to stay on and enjoy our annual AlamoSchool Talent Show at 3pm!

Jumprope for Heartid happrning right now. We hope to raise $500 for the American Heart Society by asking each child to raise $1. Any children who donate this year will receive a Ninja Jax keyring or a handy dandy carabiner.

The students of Bungalow A and Bungalow B will represent Alamo in the Special Olympics - Basketball Skills day on Tuesday, March 12th, at Lowell High School.

Do you love science? Or are you curious about what kids find interesting? Approximately 150 students participate in the science fair each spring. It's a great opportunity for children to explore their interests in science and do something fun with their friends and/or family. All classes visit the science fair so even if a child does not participate, they get to see what other students have done and be inspired! We want to continue this fun event next year, but we need someone to step forward to lead the event. If you might be interested, please reach out to our current chair, Jennifer Erskine-Ogden with questions.
