READ ACROSS AMERICA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Alamo is celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday and National Read Across America Day by inviting readers to come share their voices and their love of books on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

In the past, we have had people all over our city - police, fire depts, supervisors, librarians, store owners, musicians, parents, and grandparents - read their favorite books or pick from a selection of recently published books.

It would be 20-30 min commitment anytime between 9am-2:30pm on that Tuesday February 26.

Please ask your friends and neighbors to come read to our kids.

Contact Judy Lim at judykimlim@gmail.com or 415-867-3752 for scheduling and questions.

TALENT SHOW

Singers, dancers, musicians, magicians and contortionists, it is time to start polishing your act for the Annual Alamo Talent Show on Friday, March 15th, 2019 from 3 to 5 pm in the auditorium. Perhaps you’d like to read a poem, twirl a pirouette, or demonstrate a karate kick! Share that special talent with the Alamo community at this year’s show! Students of all grade levels are welcome to participate, so start planning and practicing. Signup forms are available on the Friends of Alamo website (https://www.friendsofalamo.org/events/annual-events/talent-show/) as well as in the office. Completed forms should be returned to the Talent Show Box in the office by no later than Monday March 4th. Please contact Michelle Sintov (msintov@gmail.com) with any questions.

Input Latin Letters on Apple iOS 12.1ALAMO SPELLATHON RESULTS

We did it! We exceeded our goal of $30K and came in at just under $32K!!

All of the classes have also reached 100% participation. Everyone's hard work paid off, and ALL of the classes will attend Happy Birds on March 11. Top earners will be contacted separately to arrange their prize and photo op with Ms. Fong.

Thank you so much for your participation. The funds raised will help continue many of our programs here at Alamo!

ERAF UPDATE

Good news! The Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted a compromise spending plan that will preserve SFUSD teacher raises as intended by voter-approved Proposition G and will also allow for pay increases to early care educators as envisioned by voter-approved Proposition C. The funds will also support other critical city priorities such as housing and services for the homeless.

If you emailed your supervisors, please follow up to thank them! At our PTA meeting last week, Principal Fong presented District 1 Supervisor and Budget Committee Chair, Sandra Fewer, with a thank you poster for the Board of Supervisors and a separate poster for Mayor London Breed.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS - BASKETBALL SKILLS

The students of Bungalow A and Bungalow B will represent Alamo in the Special Olympics - Basketball Skills day on Tuesday, March 12th, at Lowell High School.

COSTANOAN-RUMSEN CARMEL TRIBE

Sisters Desiree and Carla Munoz, members of the Costanoan-Rumsen Carmel Tribe, came to Alamo to visit with the students. Desiree is a ranger at the Presidio, the first of her 2000 member tribe to return to her ancestral homeland. Carla is an artist; she even makes her own traditional Ohlone jewelry out of shells!

SCIENCE FAIR CO-CHAIR NEEDED

Jennifer Erskine-Ogden has lead the Science Fair for seven years! As her younger daughter completes her last semester at Alamo, she is looking to hand the science fair over to a new chair. Approximately 150 students participate each spring and it's open to all students. It's a great opportunity for children to explore their interests in science and do something fun with their friends and/or family. All classes visit the science fair so even if a child does not participate, they get to see what other students have done and be inspired! Please reach out to Jennifer you'd like to chair/co-chair.
