PTA Meeting Wed. Feb. 13, 8:45am in 4th Fl. Library... Free Coffee & Bagels!

Please join our February Parent Teacher Association meeting in the sun-drenched Library, 4th Fl. Come enjoy free coffee, bagels and yogurt shots! 

Our agenda this month includes:

  • mini-intro to High School admissions with Jacqui*
  • intro of new Parent Ambassadors (pilot program)
  • plus updates on Snow Ball, Auction, hiring & much, much more

* Please submit your questions about the High School process to: info@75morton.org. Jacqui will be talking about what to expect, the timeline, and the choices ahead.

Report Cards Distributed Today

Report cards were distributed today. If you see a class without a grade on your student's report card, it means your student has not yet taken that class.

6th Grade Literacy Workshop, Fri. Feb. 15, 8:45am in the Library

The 6th grade ELA department will host a literacy workshop on Fri., Feb. 15 at 8:45am in the Library to discuss how parents can support their students' growth as readers and writers. Join us as we explore the learning units and look ahead to the NY State ELA test on April 2 & 3. We will take a deep dive into the thinking of 6th grade readers and discuss strategies to help your student learn to love to read.

Coffee and bagels – and possibly a bundt cake(!) – will be served. 

The Snow Ball Student Dance is Coming...

February is upon us and that means the Snow Ball winter dance is around the corner! Wed. Feb. 13, 6 - 7:30pm in the Gym. Please talk it up with your students!

Look for the Google permission form, which will be sent to you separately. You MUST provide permission for your student to attend the dance, or they will not be allowed entry!

Your students will receive an email with a link to a Google Form - asking for their 'Top 5 Song Selections.' Please encourage them to check their @75morton.org email accounts and complete the survey!

Thank you to our families for all of your contributions. We still have a few items left on our AMAZON WISH LIST – any help is appreciated.

We're happy to report that our Live Auction Party is set for the evening of Thursday, Apr. 4 – in our gorgeous Gym! Mark your calendars. Here's what we're looking for this week:

Community Corner: Resources & Opportunities for Your Kids!

NPR's This American Life Podcast on Middle School. Ira Glass & his team interviewed real-life middle schoolers in 2011... and the results are amazing. Stories from the awkward, confusing, hormonally charged world of middle school. Including a teacher who transforms peer pressure into a force for good, and reports from the frontlines of the middle school dance. It's 58 minutes long - and worth every minute. Hudson Guild Theatre Co. Seeks Boys & Girls 8 - 12 Who Like to Dance! Perform in a new theatre piece celebrating Spanish music and dance. No dance training necessary - just lots of interest and enthusiasm! Free Mini Film Workshops Sun. 2/3 and Sat. 3/2. For ages 5-16. Sun. Feb. 3 is Models and Miniatures; Sat. Mar. 2 is Stop Motion Animation. Take Two Film Academy offers hands-on demonstrations that aim to bring young aspiring filmmakers together with professionals in the field and are FREE to the public. NYU Lamplighters Audtions Fri. 2/1 and Sat. 2/2 for Free Musical Theatre Program. Looking for eager, attentive students with a love of musical theatre for an 8 week mentorship at NYU, culminating in a set of performances in April. Students will, along with their NYU mentors, learn the music, staging and choreography to about 4-6 musical theatre numbers within the fast rehearsal process. Updates & Reminders

  • Lost & Found. Please have your student take a look at the Lost & Found, located in the small vestibule between the lobby and the recess yard... or come check it out yourself! We just donated a ton of stuff - and we are already accumulating more. Like the cool watch pictured above.
  • CAASS Text Alerts to Start After February Recess. We are still busy entering your data. Look for our new automated text-based attendance/lateness system to start AFTER the mid-winter recess. 
  • School Photos on Feb. 12. Stomping Ground will be in the house on Tues. Feb. 12 to shoot our annual school photos. Stay tuned for more details.
  • Community Dinner Tonight & Every Thursday! Our weekly Thursday potlucks, grouped by Advisory, are underway. If your student has Hannah, Kate, Kayla or Theresa, then tonight is your night!
