Dear Families,

I hope this past weekend was lovely for all of you!

Before the holiday, you received a Fundraising Challenge appeal from our PTA – and I cannot emphasize enough how important this campaign is for 75 Morton. One glance at the PTA budget and you quickly realize that books, professional development, technology, community events, and classroom supplies are dependent on this crucial fundraising work. Please help us meet our goals and then go beyond – by giving as generously as possible!

We are all looking forward to seeing you this week at the Student Led Conferences - tomorrow from 5 - 7:30pm and Wednesday from 1 - 3pm. And remember Wednesday is a half-day with dismissal for all students at 11:30am! The conferences are important opportunities for you to learn about the work your child has been doing over the past few months. More than that, you will listen as your child analyzes and shares reflections about class work and projects. This is a new experience for many students – and your presence, smiles, patience, and attention are a huge part of its success. The Advisors will be taking notes and any questions you have back to the Bungalow. In some cases, we may feel it is necessary to arrange a follow-up conference with the Bungalow teachers.

Please keep your eye out for a December date when we will have a workshop about Mastery-based  Grading. Thanks to many of you who sent in questions – it really helped Katie and Ilene address these issues in the letter they sent home last week.

We had a wonderful Pep Rally the Wednesday before Thanksgiving! Admittedly, the gymatorium was a bit heated with 570 students and about 45 adults – all celebrating our teams, cheering on the fantastic cheerleaders, and whooping it up for Advisories. But the spirit and joy was higher than the heat, and we were so proud of the behavior of all of your children!

Finally, I hope to see many of you this Friday morning, Nov. 30, from 8:30 - 10am in the Cafeteria for our first ‘Java with Jacqui & Jill.’ We’ll be hearing from Michelle Lipkin, digital citizenship guru, about adolescents and social media. You don’t want to miss this. Plus we’ve got coffee and bagels!

With Respect,
