USED MARKER RECYCLING

Let's keep used markers out of the landfill!

Our secretary, Ms. Shellie, has signed up Alamo ES as a partner in the Crayola marker recycling program. Bring any kind of used markers to school and place them in the box on the counter. (You can send them with your child, or bring them in yourself.) When the box is full, Ms. Shellie will send them to Crayola, where they will be re-purposed. More info on the program here.

LOST & FOUND REMINDER

Our Lost and Found is piling up and we want you to be aware of our general policy. Periodically, unlabeled clothing that has been left unclaimed for several weeks will be donated either to Schoola.com or to local charities. The next donation date will be the end of October. Please take the time to 1) Label your children's jackets and sweatshirts, 2) stop by the lost and found and look through the pile to be donated on the right hand side (folded) as well as newer items on the rack. If you have any questions, contact Miki at sffogcity@gmail.com.

HALLOWEEN COSTUME EXCHANGE: New this year, we would like to offer a free Halloween costume exchange. For every clean, gently used costume you bring to the exchange, you can pick out a new costume in return. Final details are still being worked out. If you would like to help with this project, please email Sharon Ohlson by this Friday, October 12.

USED TOYS & BOOKS: Please start sorting through your gently used toys and books to be donated for the Halloween Carnival. The children love shopping with their Halloween tickets. Please drop off goods on the auditorium stage during the week leading up to the carnival, October 22-25. We are also looking for NEW small toys to be used as prizes for games.

COSTUME RULES: Please click HERE for costume guidelines.

INVEST IN ALAMO 2018 Annual Giving Campaign (IIA): Our annual campaign blasted off to a great start TOWARD OUR $60,000 goal this year! Funds raised support Alamo's Education Outside STEM program, literacy, music and art and more! We appreciate all contributions - no amount is too small!  Thank you to all who have already contributed. And don't forget about your company's match to double the impact of your donation. One-time or monthly online donations can be made at http://www.friendsofalamo.org/invest. Let's invest in our children's education; let's Invest in Alamo!

Multi-Purpose Family Income Form - REMEMBER - IT'S NOT 'JUST for LUNCH'

Yay, Alamo Community!!!  We are now at a family response rate of 61.2% but Alamo can do even better! Alamo's site budget increases when more families submit their forms regardless of eligibility or interest.

If you do not know your student's ID number, Ms. Shellie will be happy to provide it to you via phone, email or in person. Remember, you can complete either a paper form from Student Nutrition Services (Ms. Shellie has them) or the Multipurpose Family Income Form online through SchoolCafe.com. For more information, click here for English中文Español

Know Your Candidates! Attend a Board of Education Candidate Forum

Did you know there are three open Board of Education seats on November’s ballot? There is still plenty of time to learn more about the nearly 20 candidates (including Alamo parent, Li Miao Lovett!) running to serve four-year terms beginning in 2019.

The Board of Education is responsible for establishing educational goals and standards; approving curriculum; setting the district budget, which is independent of the city's budget; confirming appointment of all personnel; and approving purchases of equipment, supplies, services, leases, renovation, construction, and union contracts. In order to manage the day-to-day administration of the district, the Board of Education appoints a superintendent of schools.
