Today: Watch D.O.G.S. sign up is available.

There are a few Watch D.O.G.S. volunteer dates left! Simply sign up through MySchoolAnywhere below. If you don't find a date that works for you, but still want to be considered, sign up for the Wait List option. We will email the Wait List if spots become available. Remember: please select only one date. We only have 123 available and over 600 students.

A special thank you to Top Dog Coordinators, Ron Rafter and Steve Squillace, for organizing the Watch D.O.G.S. pizza night yesterday! We had over 100 dads/father-figures attend this fun evening, many with their kids, to learn about being a Watch D.O.G. and choosing a date to serve! To learn more visit our website or e-mail Ron and Steve with questions.

Monday: 1st grade families show their appreciation to our teachers and staff.

Each month this school year, Peter Kirk families will have the opportunity to honor our teachers and staff with an Appreciation Luncheon, hosted by grade levels. On Monday, October 1st, the luncheon will be hosted by first grade families, with a Soups & Stews theme.

First grade families: please sign up below for a few additional needed items. Thank you for participating and making this possible!

Tuesday: Art Docent orientation.

If you are signed up to be an Art Docent in your child's classroom or want to learn more about the program, please come to the Art Docent Orientation scheduled for Tuesday, October 2nd from 3:45-4:45 pm in the school’s library. Even if you are a returning Docent, we recommend that you attend to meet new Docents and stay up to date on the program.  Please contact Meredith Rasche if you have not received an email invitation.

Wednesday: Join us in celebrating Walk to School Day.

Plan to walk (or wheel) to school a bit early to take part in Peter Kirk’s exciting Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 3rd before school, from 8:40 to 9:00 am. Show your school pride by wearing your Peter Kirk Fun Run shirt as you walk through your neighborhood to school. We will have a few fun surprises for the students before the first bell. We hope to see you on the way there!

Did you know Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day? Learn More.

Welcome back 5th grade students.
This past week, the 5th graders went to Camp Seymour. They bonded with group challenges in which they had to work together using communication, compassion, and confidence to problem solve. Many also conquered fears with the climbing wall and camp fire skits.
Advocacy in Action: What should be the #1 issue for Washington State PTA?

On October 20th-21st, PTA leaders from across Washington state will gather for the 40th annual WSPTA Legislative Assembly at Green River College in Auburn. Delegates will select our TOP FIVE legislative issues to focus on for the next two years. This is an opportunity for us to weigh in and impact the direction of our organization. To be sure our vote reflects the views of Peter Kirk's PTSA members, please review the voter's guide and send your thoughts on the top five issues to Melissa Stone.

Welcome back Peter Kirk parents! And a big welcome to all our new Peter Kirk Families! Last year was my first year at Kirk and it is good  to return and feel a bit more settled into my job as Peter Kirk’s School Counselor. “Counselor Chat” is my way to share a helpful parenting article with you or to communicate an upcoming event that may be of interest to parents. Click here for an article to help your family adjust to the revved-up rhythm of the new school year!

In addition, mark your calendar for a one night parenting class coming to Kirk! Feeling challenged by your child’s whining, attitude, sibling conflict, morning or bedtime routines, homework battles or something else?  Mark your calendar now and join us for an introductory class to Positive Discipline!  Wednesday, November 14th 6:45-8:45 pm in the Peter Kirk Library.  A free class for all parents in the Lake Washington Learning Community. Learn more about Positive Discipline.

There is no shortage of shining stars in this amazing community, but this month we shine the spotlight on Laura Harding, our “volunteer of the month”.

If you don’t know Laura yet, you likely will! She is the spunky Irish gal who jumps in and helps wherever needed. This year, Laura serves on the PTSA Board as the Director of Volunteering linking numerous people with current needs.  Just this month she attacked concrete crack weeds during Grounds Beautification Day, helped organize a successful used book drive for our new teachers and lead the Halloween costume swap. Next week, Laura will be at the school with her plumbing tools changing water filters in the classrooms. Personally, we can’t wait to see what she will do next! Laura, thank you for doing whatever task is needed to make our school better!

Are you looking for ways to plug in at Peter Kirk? Do you want to meet other parents in our community? There is no better way to get to know someone than to work along side them.

Right now we have a number of opportunities to get involved at Peter Kirk! [Signups_Text_Link]

  • Teacher Appreciation Lunch: 1st Grade Families sign-up to bring in an item to make a meal for our much deserved teachers and staff. [Other grades you will have an opportunity too]
  • Walk to School Event: Come a little before school to help create a bit of fun for students as they arrive to school this day.
