Ready. Set. Fundraise!

Fundraising for Student Enrichment!

Today at the student assembly we launched the PTSA’s major fundraiser of the year - the Fun Run! The money donated to this fundraiser goes directly to fund all our ongoing activities, programs and events. As of today, we have raised over $24,000. Thank you for your generosity!

We aren't done yet! Our goal is to raise $60,000.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to donate yet, don’t delay! The class with the highest participation will win a chance to silly string Principal Garcia and Vice Principal Maver and have an ice cream party at the end of the month!

Donate online today using the link below.

For those who have already donated, thank you! Please consider extending your impact further:

  • Submit your donation for company matching
  • Invite family and friends to participate in the fundraiser. Forward this newsletter and your link above. The funds they donate will automatically be donated in your student’s name.

Tuesday: Picture Day.

If you have time and want to see how the magic of school pictures happens, please volunteer!

We need about 8 to 10 volunteers to come throughout the day to help get classrooms and organize students. Help for an hour or for the whole morning.

Wednesday: Room Parent Training.

Are you considering being a Room Parent? Did you already volunteer and are not sure what you got yourself into? Come to Room Parent Training!

Reach out to your teacher or Chell Sterioff, Room Parent Liaison, to get the details. We plan to have fun while chatting about the role and responsibilities of the room parent and sharing thoughts on how to make this a great year for each of our classrooms.

Friday: Committee Chair Training.

Elysia Heller, EVP of Peter Kirk PTSA, will be hosting a Committee Chair Training for all current Committee Chairs. This training is a fun way to meet other parents and learn everything you need to know to kick-off a great event or program on behalf of the Peter Kirk PTSA.

If you have been thinking about getting involved, now is the time! We still have programs and events that need Committee Chairs. Are you passionate about helping lost items get found or maybe bringing to life the Before and After School Programs at Peter Kirk?  Reach out to Laura Harding and she will help you get plugged in!
Friday: Peter Kirk Math Challenge Kicks-off.

Math Challenge is a new FREE enrichment program, sponsored by the Peter Kirk PTSA, and is designed to entice, engage and challenge students to solve interesting math problems to strengthen their math fundamentals, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and improve confidence in math. Students can involve families to help and engage in a fun discussion to solve math problems. All students K to grade 5 are invited to participate in the Math Challenge program.

There will be 15 sets of challenges every other week starting next Friday, September 21st with responses due by e-mail no later than 3 p.m. Sept. 27th. Each challenge presents 10 to 18 problems with varying difficulty, which enables students from various grades to participate.

Schedules and problem-solving strategies are available here.
National Reflections Art Contest has begun: Heroes Around Me.

Reflections is an art contest sponsored by National PTSA program where students take a given theme and produce a work of art that is a reflection of that theme. The theme for the 2018-2019 School Year is Heroes Around Me.

The six submission categories are: Visual Art, Photography, Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, and Original Music Composition. The deadline for submissions has yet to be announced but is typically during the October - November time frame. Last year, two Peter Kirk Eagles art submissions made it to Regionals! Learn more: Reflections Art Contest.
Celebrate your child's birthday with a book! Birthday Book Club is at Peter Kirk.

We're excited to announce the new Birthday Book Club at Peter Kirk!  This is a great opportunity to grow our library and honor your child's birthday - or other special occasion- at the same time. Here's how it works:

Pick a book from our Amazon wishlist or search for Peter Kirk Elementary Birthday Book Club under Friends & Family Gifting.

In the Gift Message box, be sure to include:

  • Your child's name
  • Birth date
  • Teacher

Miss Cranson will put a special name plate in the book honoring your child. The book will be introduced during your child's Library class and reserved for first check-out by your child.

Did you miss it?

Yesterday, the PTSA had our first General Membership Meeting following the Open House. Don’t worry, for those of you that could not attend, you can check out what was discussed here.

September 27th: Watch D.O.G.S. Pizza Night.

Fathers and father-figures:  Do you want to become a WatchDOG this year? Watch D.O.G.S. is a fun and helpful way for dads, uncles, grandpas and other father-figures to get involved at Peter Kirk. Join us at the school for pizza with your student(s) and a brief presentation about the program on September 27th. Please bring $10 cash to contribute for pizza. Those who attend will have the first opportunity to get their desired Watch D.O.G.S. date(s)!

September 28th: Fun Run.

The Fun Run isn’t just a fundraiser, it's also an event for all the students to show their Peter Kirk pride! On September 28th, every student will receive a new 2018 Peter Kirk t-shirt and will go outside to run around the front of the school (rain or shine). Parents are welcome to attend and cheer their students on. Please consider volunteering to make this event a day the kids will not forget!
