Welcome back to School! Here is what is coming up next week.

Welcome back! Thank you for Joining PTSA!

What an amazing and supportive community we have! Through your support, we are nearing our goal of 100% PTSA membership!  With 97% membership, we are just 10 members shy of our goal! If you haven't purchased a membership for 2018-2019 yet – please do so by September 15th

Join today! [Store_Text_Link]

Not only does your membership in PTSA help advocate for children and education at the state and national level, but remember, membership allows you access to search our school's online student directory. This online directory is an amazing perk that enables you to get to know the other families in your child's classroom, and is accessible from the MySchoolAnywhere app right on your phone. Learn More.

  • September 13th: Open House (6-7 pm) & PTSA General Membership Meeting (7-8 pm)

Monday thru Thursday: Stock the book shelves of our new teachers.

Have your kids outgrown their books?  Before you post them on Buy Nothing Kirkland consider donating them to our new teachers during next week’s book drive!

As you know, our school added 9 new teachers this school year.  While the PTSA grants each new teacher $400 to get their classroom setup (provided by your generous donations during the Fun Run), those funds only go so far, and many teachers have expressed a need for both fiction and non-fiction books for independent reading.

We will be collecting books before and after school next week, at collection bins near the glass display case in front of the school. You can also bring them to the General Membership Meeting following Open House on Thursday.

On Friday, teachers will “go shopping” during their lunch break and after school to fill their classroom libraries. Thanks in advance for your support! We hope you join us in stocking the shelves of our classrooms.

Wednesday: Grab your gardening gloves to keep Peter Kirk herbicide-free!

It is time for a much-needed post-summer clean-up for our school grounds! Peter Kirk is proud to be a King County Level 1 Green School, and as such do not use toxic herbicides like Roundup for weed prevention. If we don’t maintain those pesky weeds, the District may choose to go back to the Roundup spray method. That is why we come together twice per year as a community for Grounds Beautification!

This Wednesday, September 12th, grab your gardening gloves and come anytime between 9:30 am - 1:30 pm to help.  Spend 30 minutes (or more) with your fellow Eagles sweeping, washing, pruning, and attacking those pesky weeds to show our school a little love!

Consider coming during lunch recess to garden along-side your child!

Thursday: Open House & PTSA General Membership Meeting.

Next Thursday, September 13th from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm is the school's Open House hosted by our staff and teachers. Come see what your child has been working on these first few days, and hear from their teacher.  This will be for 1st through 5th Grade only, and kids are welcome.

After visiting your child’s classroom, join us in the library for the PTSA General Membership Connection meeting starting at 7:00 pm.  Come hear about what the PTSA has planned this year, followed by an update from Principle Garcia to learn about and contribute to the school’s Continuous Improvement Plan.  If you have questions about events/activities or new processes at the school we would encourage you to attend.

You'll want to stick around because we’ll end the evening by heading to Vovina in downtown Kirkland for some fun social time that you won’t want to miss!

Friday: Students' first assembly and Fun Run Kick off.

Peter Kirk’s first assembly will be Friday the 14th to kick-off the new year and launch the Fun Run. This assembly is one of the kids’ favorites throughout the year.  Sorry parents, this is a kid only activity as we couldn't possibly fit anyone else in the gym. Be sure to ask about it at the end of the day.

The Fun Run is the PTSA major fundraiser of the year. We will be providing more information next week but you can always check out our website to read ahead and learn more.

After School Enrichment Programs still available!

Registration is still going on for After School EnrichmentThere are still a few openings remaining - from Drama (3-5th graders), Math club (3-5 graders) and Yearbook (4-5th graders) to name a few. Visit 6Crickets to register.

Remember, it is our PTSA insurance requirement that every day there is both an instructor AND a PTSA parent chaperone present in class. So unless a parent has signed up to chaperone all days in exchange for free or reduced tuition, be ready to sign-up for a day to come in and help.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any question.
