Elections coming up for the 2018-19 Peter Kirk PTSA Board.

Elections for the 2018-19 Peter Kirk PTSA Board will be held at the PTSA General Meeting on March 15 at 7:00pm in the Peter Kirk Library.

Our Nominating Committee is finalizing its list of candidates for all elected Board positions. One position that still needs a candidate is our VP of Community. If you're interested in becoming involved and would like to learn if this role (or any Board position) might be a good fit for you, please reach out to our Nominating Committee, comprised of Laura Castillo, Stephanie Lecovin and Liz Feldsher, by emailing nominations@peterkirkptsa.org. The time commitment for the VP role is not overwhelming, but the sense of community you'll feel from becoming involved is tremendous.

Join us at Family Reading Night! (March 1st, 6pm, Gym).

Family Reading Night is nearly here!  Mark your calendars for March 1st from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Bring your kids in their pajamas with their stuffed animal or blankie ready to hear special stories from our very own Peter Kirk teachers.

The event will start in the gym with popcorn at 6:00pm. Then kids will rotate classrooms to hear different stories being shared promptly at 6:30, 6:45, 7:00 and 7:15pm.

Kids K-2 will get to hear fun picture book stories, and 3rd through 5th graders will be exposed to a fun new chapter book. Each child will take home a ‘literacy’ toolkit at the end of the night.

We can't wait to see you!

Are you ready for summer? Best of summer camps.

In January, we asked all of you to share your favorite summer camps. The list was summarized and presented at our January Membership Meeting. We didn't want anyone to miss out on this valuable information. Check out the link below to see what other parents said about summer camps.

NEW TO PETER KIRK?

Are you new? There is still time to join the PTSA!

Are you a new family to Peter Kirk? It's not too late to join the PTSA!! Your Individual or Family membership is vital in showing lawmakers that Peter Kirk is made up of parents and staff who care about our kids, as nearly all your membership fee goes to advocate for kids at the state and national levels.

With your annual PTSA membership, you have access to search the online student directory in MySchoolAnywhere (perfect for setting up those playdates!).

Membership does not mean you have to volunteer for anything, although it does allow you a ‘Voice & Vote’ at the PTSA General Membership meetings if you want to get involved. Though your generous donations, our PTSA funds vital student programs at school including art, science, math, the outdoor garden program, assemblies, teacher grants and more.

Planning your next vacation? Being a PTSA member rewards you with discounts to Great Wolf Lodge, Avis Car, Hertz, Budget Car Rental, Tacoma Dome, Key Arena, and Ticket Monster Perks. You can also find reduced rates for FedEx and Sylvan Learning Centers.

THANK YOU EAGLES

Thank you, 4th grade families.

Thank you to the 4th grade families for hosting the February teacher appreciation luncheon, Tailgating. It is wonderful that we are able to give back to our teachers in this way. A small token of our appreciation with a delicious home cooked lunch! Next month, the Kindergarten and 5th grade families will give appreciate through desserts!

Thank you for showing your LOVE.

Thank you to everyone who donated supplies and came out to help make sandwiches for the homeless last week. We had a wonderful turnout and were able to make 422 sandwiches! What a difference this will make!

For students who participated, please consider submitting your volunteer time so we can recognize you as an Eagle in Action.

Thank you & Election Recap.

Thank you to everyone who stood up for our kids and provided support throughout the election. The two levies are passing at over 50%. This is a huge win given the questions around funding and taxes at the state level. Unfortunately, the bond is under the 60% threshold needed to pass and is failing. With the outcome of the election and overcrowding in our schools, LWSD will share details with us soon about next steps.
