Box Tops, Collect your Box Tops!

Our Student Council is collecting Box Tops again this year! Before you recycle your boxes and cans, check the label to see if it contains a Box Top. Each Box Top brings 10 cents to our school. While the amount of one is small, together we can raise hundreds of dollars!

Please, make sure you cut out the Box Top along the lines. When you are ready you can deliver them to your teacher. Collect them all year and bring them in all at once, or bring them in monthly, whatever works for your family.

Let's start clipping!

We Need Your Help! Sign Waving Event on 1/29.

Come show your support of the upcoming LWSD bond and levy measures on RED MONDAY, January 29th. This will raise awareness, generate excitement, and show the power of our numbers as we come out in force to support the bond and levies!

We will be waving signs before school from 8-8:30am, and after school from 3:30-4 pm, at the corner of 6th and Central. Kids are welcome and encouraged with an adult. If you came out sign waving in support of the bond in 2016, you know that this is a fun time, especially for the kids. We will have some signs available at the event or your child can make a sign. The homemade signs are usually the most popular. You don't have to sign up, just show up. Most importantly, WEAR RED!

For more information on the LWSD bond and levy measures visit LWCLC or LWSD

Please vote 'YES' for our kids and schools by Feb. 13th!

Greetings, parents and caregivers!  Our Positive Discipline Parenting Class is off to a great start with a full class!  If you didn't get a chance to sign up for this one, I hope to continue to offer these classes.

I am now teaching lessons in each classroom here at Kirk.  The purpose of the lessons is to build the social emotional skills of all our students.  A student who feels connected to others, can contribute in meaningful ways, and has the courage to try new things will be a student who is ready to get the most out of his/her academics.

Most of what I teach is about community building and problem solving.  Attached is an article on how you can build problem solving skills by supporting your child(ren) in resolving sibling and friendship conflicts at home.  I have also attached a document with some of the main concepts that all Kirk students will learn.

I hope you find it all helpful!

  • Thank you to the 3rd grade parents who hosted a Soup and Salad lunch for our teachers. Next luncheon will be on February 5th, hosted by our 4th grade families. More details to come.

  • Thank you to Shawn Nandi, Kevin Hodges and Ian Maver for their work to keep our school prepared in an event of a emergency. Last Friday, they distributed bottled water to each pod for emergencies. We appreciate all you do to keep our kids safe!

Did you make a resolution to become more involved? Let's cross that off your to-do list! There are many ways to get engaged at the school for an hour, an event or for the year. Below are just a few opportunities that currently need volunteers. Sign up today!

Carnival Committee: Wanted: energetic and engaged volunteer(s) to join our stellar Carnival planning team! The carnival committee is comprised of 8 roles shared by 5-6 volunteers. We are looking for a person or two to fill the role of Games and Prize Coordinator(s). We begin planning just after Mid-Winter Break, meeting once in March and April and then as needed in May. Come help us make this the best celebration of the year! Questions? Contact Elysia Heller

School Play Committee: We're in need of a photographer, an accompanist, hospitality, DVD sales organizer, registration coordinator, ticket sales coordinator, and several other positions! The more volunteers we have, the bigger and grander our show can be. We can work with different schedules and time constraints. The Little Mermaid can't happen without your help!  Learn more about the play. Questions? Contact April Rickard.

Do these events not fit in your schedule? Not a problem, there are many more ways you can help. Reach out to Wendy Alston, our PTSA Volunteer Coordinator. She is amazing at fitting your talents with a need.
