FROM THE NEST

Good morning, [First_Name]!

Hopefully you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are settling back into the routine this week nicely. Did you know there are only 13 more days until Winter Break? Or am I the only one counting down?

Our events calendar is slowing down as we near the end of the year. We still have a few things to come before we leave for break.

  • TONIGHT the Peter Kirk Chorus performs at Lake Washington Regional Choral Concert (LWHS Gym, 6:30pm Students, 7:00pm Concert).
  • Math Challenge MC5 is due tomorrow (November 30th)
  • After-School Program Registration opens for our Winter Session on December 11th on 6Crickets

Are you missing a scarf or a coat? The Lost and Found is overflowing with items left here and there. Stop by before winter break to claim your items!

Thank you to the 18 students who dedicated the time to create works of art for this year's "Within Reach" Reflections Art Contest. Each student received a certificate of participation and we had nine finalists whose submissions will move on to the Lake Washington School District Council level.

Thank you to Elise M.(First Grade), Vivienne M., Naomi B., Chris M., Evan P., Maiya C., Lucy W., Ilena O. (Third Grade), and Zara M. (5th Grade) for making the world more beautiful with your art! These nine students' work can be viewed in the Peter Kirk office hallway.

Congratulations to Andre W. (2nd Grade), Yuna Y., Victoria G., Caroline F., Eric W., Aanya P. (3rd Grade), Finn O. (4th Grade), Georgia T. and Kady B. (5th Grade) for being selected to move ahead to the District Council level. There will be an open house at the Lake WA Resource Center in Redmond town Center from 4:00 to 8:00pm on Friday, January 5th, where all nine finalists will have their work displayed.

Submissions from Kady B. and Yuna Y.

WELLNESS TIP: SEASON OF GIVING

The winter holidays celebrate our relationships and remind us to be grateful for the bounty in our lives. Giving to those around us is a great way to show we care and we have the opportunity to teach children to enjoy giving as much as receiving. We can talk to kids about the many ways we can give back to our community and our world by volunteering, donating, and making healthier choices.

We can also show our children how to find a healthy balance in a busy season by giving them the gift of time. This could mean giving kids an experience present over a physical one, enabling parents and kids to spend time together. A few ideas include one-on-one or whole family dates – to the movies, bowling, the theater, ice skating, the Reptile Zoo or Aquarium, or a family weekend away. It can also mean prioritizing spending time together (cooking, playing cards, going for walks, doing holiday crafts…) over the many other tasks that vie for our attention. More than any cool new toy, our kids want us.
