Join us this Friday for the last FFO General Meeting of 2017. The agenda includes a proposed change to the bylaws. Although we won’t be meeting again in December, there are still lots of ways to be involved. Visit our website for upcoming opportunities such as:

  • Thanksgiving Teacher Potluck - help feed our hardworking teachers and staff.
  • Talent Show - put on a spectacular showcase for our talented boys and girls.
  • Robotics - volunteers are welcome in all classes (not just your child’s).

Our teachers have a smaller budget this year, and are relying on our Spirit of Sunrise funds to fill in the gaps. To learn more about how you can make a donation (or a 2nd donation) see the Spirit of Sunrise article below.

The FFO organizes, operates, and communicates to all families and faculty the many Sunrise, CFSD, and community programs and events. We also generate funding to support the vibrant learning environment and our programs and events.

Spirit of Sunrise

The Sunrise Drive FFO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and much of the FFO budget comes from direct donations. If you have not had a chance to make your Spirit of Sunrise donation, please consider making your 2017 tax deductible donation now! The Spirit of Sunrise could use your help in making more grants possible for our students.

Spirit of Sunrise donations help fund field trips, Spiders and Cider, Sunrise community garden, and many more events and activities for our students. To see how the Spirit of Sunrise donations were recently utilized, please see the Treasury Update and Grants at Work sections below.

You can make a donation through our online form or drop a check payable to “Sunrise Drive FFO” in the FFO lock box located in the school office. The suggested amount is fifty dollars ($50) per student; however, any amount is appreciated and all donations are tax deductible. Thank you!

Treasury Update

Great news! Your Spirit of Sunrise donations are hard at work as we are off to a running start! Your donations helped make Spiders and Cider an enormous community building success, and funded this year’s recurring classroom technology contracts with nearly $7,500 so that the teachers can continue offering Raz Readers and Reflex Math. Your generosity also provided $1,400 in grants and almost $2,000 in exciting field trips. In addition, Spirit of Sunrise funds were used to enrich each classroom with $5,500 in new books and supplies. 

We encourage each family to donate $50 to Spirit of Sunrise to support our students. Your valued contribution is tax deductible!

Grants at Work!

The FFO grants program presents an important opportunity for staff and parents to work together to benefit the entire Sunrise community. By using FFO funds, we can expand Sunrise’s ability to meet specific educational needs of our children by paying for field trips, artists-in-residence, guest authors, the Sunrise Garden, and numerous other special programs for our students. 

Teachers, staff, family members and students may submit grant proposals to the Grants Chair who presents them to the FFO executive board for review. Exec-approved proposals are brought to the General FFO Meetings for discussion and a deciding vote.

Approved Grants

  • Artist in Residence, Gwen Ray, puppeteer, 2nd grade, $2,200
  • Field Trip entrance fee for Tucson Village Farms, Kinder, $600
  • First Grade Visit to Flandreau Science Center, 1st grade, $720

Proposed Grants

  • We Make History Field Trip, 4th Grade, $1,224
  • Kore Chairs, 1st grade, $1,216.16

Chinese Immersion

We Love Learning Chinese!

Hello Chinese Immersion families!

We are ready to begin our Chinese Spring Festival preparations. Please mark your calendar for Friday, March 2, 2018. If you are interested in helping with decorating, performances, dragons, activities, food or other festival events, please email Jenny Dessent or Anita McGuire

Volunteer Coordinator Update

A tremendous thank you goes out to all who volunteered their time, talents, and resources during events in the last few months. If you have enjoyed attending events and would like to contribute in some way (big or small), please visit your custom MySchoolAnywhere Signup Link below to check out all of the opportunities. You can even team up with some friends and family to volunteer together! It really is that easy, and helps to strengthen our school community. 

Current opportunities include:

  • Garden Club - Wednesdays at lunch (11:40-1:00) starting this month.
  • Watering Crew - You can sign up for a single day and it only takes 10 minutes to give baby plants their much needed water! (Currently only 50% of upcoming days are covered.) 
  • Art Studio - Want to get your right brain in gear? Volunteer to help Ms. Carton in the art studio.
  • Steppers - Ms. Dover could use some lunchtime lap counters on Fridays from November to February. 
  • Thanksgiving Luncheon - Show your appreciation to the teachers and staff by volunteering your time or food/supply items.

Spiders & Cider

  

Thank you for helping to make Spiders & Cider a success!

We would like to extend our deep gratitude to everyone who volunteered their time and resources to help make Spiders & Cider a success. Garden News - Volunteers needed!

Classroom Gardening

Thank you to all the teachers and parent volunteers for taking our children out to the garden for fall planting! We are growing radishes, carrots, kale, lettuce, spinach, beets and peas this year. Several teachers have not had any parents volunteer to help with their class plots. If you would like to help your child’s class in the garden, please contact your teacher. 

Garden Club

Garden Club has started, meeting every Wednesday, from 11:40-1:00, during lunch recess. The seeds are sprouting and the children are so excited to be back in the garden during recess! We thinned out radish seedlings, dug for worms, and planted some extra seeds for Mrs. Davidson. All students are welcome to participate as often as they choose. Book Fair Thank You and Results

Stack of BooksThanks to all of you, our wonderful Sunrise Families, for supporting our school Book Fair. Our school has two wonderful Book Fairs per year because of your support and participation, from buying books to volunteering. Our Fall Book Fair made $7,221.30 in Scholastic Dollars that directly benefits our children. We were able to put $2,237.92 immediately into new books for our library and each of our classrooms! This money will also provide a book to give to each child at our school during Love of Reading week in February. The rest is used for a variety of classroom items on an as-needed basis. You make it all possible -- thank you! 

I’d like to extend a special thank you to the amazing group of volunteers this Fall who made the Fair possible. Sunrise Thanksgiving Potluck Lunch

Steppers

Zach Stepping it Up!

Our first day of Steppers was Friday November 3rd and we had a great turn out! Our school ran/walked a total of 583 miles! It was so much fun, the weather was great, and the students really worked hard! We will be out on the field every Friday until February 16 during lunch recess.

You can submit yearbook photos to our online form.

Please only submit pictures from school-related events. First day of school photos are welcome but only if they were taken at school. Send us what you have!
