Screenagers - Growing up in the digital age

On Wednesday, September 13th at 6:30pm, Millikan Math Academy will be hosting the award-winning documentary SCREENAGERS in Burrill Hall.

For those of you not familiar with the movie, SCREENAGERS takes a hard look at the messy struggles over social media, video games, academics, internet addiction and how this technology is affecting our society. Through surprising insight from authors and brain scientists, solutions emerge on how we can empower kids to best navigate the digital world.

This event is open to everyone -- parents, students and the community.  The events starts at 6:30pm and ends at approximately 8:15pm.  Pizza, snacks and beverages will be sold before and after the movie.

Middle School Info Night for Colfax and Carpenter Parents

Tuesday, September 19 5:00-7:00 p.m. on the Carpenter Elementary campus at the lunch tables

Are you the parent of a 5th grader trying to figure out where your child will go to middle school next year?  Or maybe you have a 4th grader and you’re trying to get a head start on the search? Please come to our parent-to-parent information exchange!   This is an open-house style event where you can have casual conversations with fellow parents who went through this process within the last few years.  For the most part, they are not official representatives of the schools, but will share with you anecdotal information about their journeys to find the right school and program for their children, and their middle school experiences.  By having these conversations, we hope we can help you plan a course for the admissions processes and begin to narrow the choices to find the best fit for your child and family.  Please save the date, and stay tuned for flyer with list of schools that will be represented.

Annual Giving

Dr To has generously offered to donate $2500 to Colfax if we reach 250 donations before  September 30th!!   Let's make this goal!  Annual Giving is our chance as parents and friends of Colfax to donate to our incredible school so that we can continue to have programs like art, violin, technology, and our amazing classroom aides.  This school would not be the special place that it is without these donations so please consider giving.  It takes about $800 PER CHILD to keep all these programs in place.  Checks can be dropped off in the office (made out to PACE) or you can donate on line here.   If you donate before September 15th you'll receive a coupon pack from our Colfax business sponsors.

PEAK Adventures

We love having PEAK ADVENTURE in our Colfax Family!

In addition to the full array of after care options that PEAK offers, check out this list of enrichment offerings all on the Colfax Campus!  Is your child fascinated by marine life?  A fan of cupcake wars?  A Lego aficionado?  A rising improv star? A budding fashion designer?  And that is not even the entire list of options available!!!  Register NOW at PEAK Adventures

PEAK Adventures has some after school magic up their sleeves this week as our Ninjas become Wizards!  We will be making magic milk, mystical potions and even foaming fountains.  Learn magic tricks, make a magic wand and even a tie dye t-shirt with some magic science.  We will continue basketball with Coach BP (which was a HUGE hit) and Cheer/Tumbling with our new Coach Katelyn.  After school really can be magical!

Technology Update

Fresh for the new school year, a lot of work has been done over the summer to enhance our communications to our parents.  You may have already noticed that our school website has had a face lift and is sporting a new look home page with a fresh new banner and ‘Colfax News’ section.  We will be continuing its upgrade over the coming months so please keep checking back.

Additionally, we are pleased to announce the launch of our ‘Colfax Parents’ web portal!  When you log into you will find a new interface sharing the combined forces of your Parents Organizations PACE and PTA.  Myschoolanywhere remains your ‘school directory’ and you can continue to search for your children’s friends and their parents contact details here, using your secure password.  * You should now have received the annual reminder to update your families profile, update your contact details and identify your children’s teachers for this year.

From ‘Colfax Parents’ you will be able to click on the buttons/links to navigate away to further information on any of the activities that PACE and PTA manage.  We are trying to make everything easier for you to sign up for, pay for and purchase online.  For example, you can now purchase your PTA Membership online and you can access our Annual Giving page to select how you wish to donate.  * Non-Colfax Parents can make annual giving donations via the PACE link on our school website: .  Please feel free to share this link with your friends and family members.

We are continuing to develop these pages over the following months and you will find as we build this interface, you will have access to much more ‘Colfax Parents’ information at your fingertips!
