Welcome to a new school year [Family_Last] Family!

We are excited to start another wonderful year at Peter Kirk! I hope your kids are settling in nicely into their new classrooms and are looking forward to the year ahead. If you are new to our school or have been lingering on the perimeter, unsure about how to get involved, I hope this will be the year we get to know one another better!

While I could write on and on about what makes Peter Kirk a special place and the important role our PTSA plays at the school, I will encourage you to watch this two-minute video, created by Jake Hanna, a superstar student from Lake Washington High School.

After watching that, perhaps you're asking yourself, "How can I help?" Well, it's really quite simple. There are three ways:

1. Join the PTSA. Since many of you have already taken this first step (thank you!), we are well on our way to reaching our goal of 100% membership. We're at 87% membership! This sends a strong message to our District and the State Legislature that we are a school that cares. Let's keep growing that number!

If you haven't purchased your annual PTSA membership yet, you can do so in our online store linked below.  Remember, membership allows you access to our school's online directory. This new online directory is an amazing perk, as it enables you to connect with the other families at school and get play dates on the books now!

2. Contribute to our Fun Run. This is our one big fundraiser of the year that funds all of our ongoing programs, activities and events. Every single child at Peter Kirk benefits directly from this money by receiving art education, math and reading programs, classroom supplies through teacher grants and more. Feel free to check out our budget to see where the money goes!

Some have been asking, "Where are the Fun Run Donation Packets that come in my child's folder?" Don't worry, we are going paperless & digital this year.  It is so simple! You can donate online today in the MySchoolAnywhere Store linked below.

3. Volunteer. The opportunities are endless, and the level of commitment is completely up to you. Whether you have one day a year or one day a week (or somewhere in between), there is a perfect opportunity for your. Search our current volunteer opportunities in the singups below or reach out to our Volunteer Director who can help connect you with a great opportunity to become involved.

It takes a team of dedicated volunteers to lead, craft our vision and goals, and manage our 40+ programs. I would like to thank our Board of Directors (Stephanie Lecovin, Ashley Fitzpatrick, Kelly Radcliff, Margo Wei, Tom Schauer, Elysia Heller, Jennifer Greenberg, Miyoko Nather, Tricia Barendt, April Rickard, Wendy Alston, Jessica Conver, Christine Bergstein, Melissa Stone, Laura Harding and Megan Smiley ) for their commitment, competence and enthusiasm!

Finally, I would like to acknowledge with my deepest gratitude our Communications Co-Directors, April Rickard and Tricia Barendt. Both April and Tricia worked tirelessly all summer long on updating our website, designing promotional materials, setting up MySchoolAnywhere, and re-tooling this newsletter. Thank you April and Tricia, for your tremendous generosity and immense contribution.

I look forward to working together with you and our children this year on further strengthening our community, teaching and practicing kindness, and having a ton of fun!

Looking forward to meeting you!

Celebrating or Crying?

New Parent Coffee!

September 11th

Welcome all new families to Peter Kirk!

While some are celebrating as our children return to school, others are shedding a few tears at the end of summer and the sign of our kids growing up.

No matter where you fall on that spectrum, come join us on September 11th in front of the school immediately after drop-off for coffee and connection.

We hope to see you there!

Enroll for After-School Enrichment Soon!

September 13th

There are only five more days to register for After-School Enrichment!

So many classes remain - from Ultimate Frisbee and French Fun, to Coding with Kids, there is sure to be something your student will love. Visit 6Crickets to register.

For our insurance to be valid, we must have an instructor AND a parent present in class. So when you register, check to see if the class is in need of additional parent volunteers.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Beautification Day

September 13th

It is time for a much-needed post-summer clean-up for our school grounds!

Grounds Beautification Day is next Wednesday, September 13th.

Come anytime between 9:00am - 1:00pm. Spend 30 minutes (or more) with your fellow Eagles sweeping, mulching, pruning and attacking those pesky weeds to make our school shine! Coffee, snacks and tools provided. Just bring yourselves!

Open House

September 14th

This will be for 1st through 5th grades only. Look for an email from Principal Garcia to provide more information.

First PTSA

Connection Meeting

(General Membership Meeting)

September 14th

Our first PTSA Connection Meeting will be held next Thursday, September 14th at 7:30pm in the school Library following the school's Open House.

Along with a new name, these meetings will have a brand new format. We'll begin with a brief discussion of PTSA business and update by Principal Garcia, followed by a collaborative parent education topic. We will end the night with a social hour in downtown Kirkland.

This month's Parent Education topic will be "Packing a Heathy School Lunch Your Kid Will Eat". Hope to see you there!

Why online student directory class lists might be incomplete

Families update their own information in the directory, so if your class roster is not complete, either the student’s teacher is not updated OR the families have not registered with MySchoolAnywhere. The missing families will be filled in by the end of October, but meanwhile please help us to encourage anyone you know to update their information or register here:, using the code: peterkirkeagle.

How to update your student’s teacher or other information

Once logged in, you can update your information online or via the mobile app.

Online, once you log in, go to “Your Account” in the upper right hand corner of your screen.  Select “Your Family” and then go to “Students” to update the teacher information OR “Household 1” to update emails.

From the mobile app, get to the menu by selecting the three lines in the upper left-hand corner. Select “Your Account” then “Update Your Family Information”. Scroll down the page and follow the promts from there.

If your student has moved on from Peter Kirk, you can easily unsubscribe from communications from Peter Kirk PTSA by using the SafeUnsubscribe below. If you know someone that should be receiving our newsletters, please have them reach out.
