Welcome to a new school year [Family_Last] Family!
We are excited to start another wonderful year at Peter Kirk! I hope your kids are settling in nicely into their new classrooms and are looking forward to the year ahead. If you are new to our school or have been lingering on the perimeter, unsure about how to get involved, I hope this will be the year we get to know one another better!
While I could write on and on about what makes Peter Kirk a special place and the important role our PTSA plays at the school, I will encourage you to watch this two-minute video, created by Jake Hanna, a superstar student from Lake Washington High School.
After watching that, perhaps you're asking yourself, "How can I help?" Well, it's really quite simple. There are three ways:
1. Join the PTSA. Since many of you have already taken this first step (thank you!), we are well on our way to reaching our goal of 100% membership. We're at 87% membership! This sends a strong message to our District and the State Legislature that we are a school that cares. Let's keep growing that number!
If you haven't purchased your annual PTSA membership yet, you can do so in our online store linked below. Remember, membership allows you access to our school's online directory. This new online directory is an amazing perk, as it enables you to connect with the other families at school and get play dates on the books now!
2. Contribute to our Fun Run. This is our one big fundraiser of the year that funds all of our ongoing programs, activities and events. Every single child at Peter Kirk benefits directly from this money by receiving art education, math and reading programs, classroom supplies through teacher grants and more. Feel free to check out our budget to see where the money goes!
Some have been asking, "Where are the Fun Run Donation Packets that come in my child's folder?" Don't worry, we are going paperless & digital this year. It is so simple! You can donate online today in the MySchoolAnywhere Store linked below.
3. Volunteer. The opportunities are endless, and the level of commitment is completely up to you. Whether you have one day a year or one day a week (or somewhere in between), there is a perfect opportunity for your. Search our current volunteer opportunities in the singups below or reach out to our Volunteer Director who can help connect you with a great opportunity to become involved.
It takes a team of dedicated volunteers to lead, craft our vision and goals, and manage our 40+ programs. I would like to thank our Board of Directors (Stephanie Lecovin, Ashley Fitzpatrick, Kelly Radcliff, Margo Wei, Tom Schauer, Elysia Heller, Jennifer Greenberg, Miyoko Nather, Tricia Barendt, April Rickard, Wendy Alston, Jessica Conver, Christine Bergstein, Melissa Stone, Laura Harding and Megan Smiley ) for their commitment, competence and enthusiasm!
Finally, I would like to acknowledge with my deepest gratitude our Communications Co-Directors, April Rickard and Tricia Barendt. Both April and Tricia worked tirelessly all summer long on updating our website, designing promotional materials, setting up MySchoolAnywhere, and re-tooling this newsletter. Thank you April and Tricia, for your tremendous generosity and immense contribution.
I look forward to working together with you and our children this year on further strengthening our community, teaching and practicing kindness, and having a ton of fun!
Looking forward to meeting you!
